Script for the Opening Sequence for 'Remember Me'

While much of the narrative information is delivered to the audience visually in my opening scene, I have included some dialogue between the characters.

Opening Sequence Script:

My opening sequence contains minimal dialogue which allows the mise-en-scene - the visuals, props, costumes and actions to tell most of the story. This fits well with the romantic comedy genre, as it focuses on character interaction and builds emotion naturally.

The first piece of dialogue is when Jack walks towards the stairs and calls up to Emma saying:

“Em, you nearly ready? We’re gonna be late for our reservation.” 

This line helps establish their relationship and suggests they are going somewhere important, creating a sense of anticipation.

This is followed by a shot of Emma from the bathroom doorway, where she replies:

“Coming, just a minute.” 

This shows a natural, everyday interaction between the couple, making them feel relatable and realistic to the audience.

Later in the sequence Emma walks down the stairs towards Jack. As he sees her he says:

“You look beautiful.” 

This reinforces the romantic element of the film and shows his feelings towards her. Emma responds with:

“You haven’t cleaned up too bad.” 

This adds a light, playful tone that reflects typical rom-com dialogue.

Finally, Jack says:

“Come on, let’s go.” 

This moves the narrative forward as they leave the house.

Overall, the limited dialogue is effective because it keeps the focus on visual storytelling while still clearly presenting the characters’ relationship, personalities and the romantic tone of the film.
