Layout of All Elements Ahead of Editing My Opening Sequence.

I will be editing the opening sequence for 'Remember Me' over the next wee so I have organised my layout to help make the editing process run as smoothly as possible.

Opening Sequence Layout:

My opening sequence follows a clear and structured layout, combining production company logos, title cards, and a variety of shots to introduce the characters, setting, and narrative.

The sequence begins with the Universal logo/ident, followed by the Working Title logo/ident, establishing credibility and linking my film to the romantic comedy genre. This is followed by a title card reading “Universal Pictures Present”.

 

The first visuals include a close-up shot of slippers, introducing the domestic setting, followed by a title card “A Working Title Production.” This leads into a medium shot of towels in the bathroom and a medium shot of products on the sink, helping to establish the shared space and relationship. The first actor title cards (“Jonny Bland” and “Kate Spalter”) appear during these shots.

  

The sequence continues with a medium shot of the bed, followed by close-ups of the man’s and woman’s bedside tables, showing personality differences. Another title card (“Sophia Marshall, Henry Davo”) appears here. This is followed by a medium shot of shoes in the closet and a medium shot of coats hanging, then a medium/close-up of keys and wallets, reinforcing the idea of two individuals living together. A title card “Music by Brian Tyler” is shown.

 

The characters are then introduced more clearly through a medium shot of the female character brushing her hair in the mirror, followed by a medium shot of the male character fixing his suit and tie. These shots cut back and forth, showing both characters getting ready. A title card “Director of Photography Linus Sandgren” appears, followed by a close-up of the watch, emphasising time and importance.

  

The male character is then shown through a medium shot from behind walking to the stairs, followed by a front-facing medium shot and a high-angle shot as he calls upstairs. This is followed by a medium close-up of the female character responding from the bathroom doorway, showing their interaction.

 

The proposal is hinted at through a close-up of the man taking the ring out of his pocket, followed by a title card “Edited by Peter Teschner.” A close-up of the ring box opening and a medium shot of him looking at the ring build enigma. This continues with a shot of him looking up the stairs, then back at the ring, before a close-up of him putting it back in his pocket. A title card “Executive Producers Jenny Han, Marc Webb” appears.

 

The female character is then introduced more fully through a low-angle shot of her walking down the stairs, followed by a medium over-the-shoulder shot of the man turning to look at her. A medium shot of her descending the stairs and a high-angle shot of them together at the bottom highlight their relationship. This is followed by over-the-shoulder shots and a side shot of them together, including him kissing her hand, reinforcing the romantic tone. A title card “Produced by John M. Chew, Judd Apatow” is shown.

 

The sequence then moves the narrative forward with a medium-long shot of them leaving the house, followed by a medium shot of them exiting, a medium close-up of her getting into the car, and long shots of him closing the door and getting in. A title card “Directed by Richard Curtis” appears.

 

The final shots include close-ups of both characters looking at each other in the car, creating an emotional moment, before cutting to a black screen with the sound of a car crash, introducing the main conflict or obstacle to their happiness. The sequence ends with a title card displaying the film name, “Remember Me.”
